Union Govt. has lifted the ban on pre-paid mobile phones in Jammu & Kashmir. The govt. also instructed mobile service providers for stringent Identity check tightening security procedures for new connections. the ban was imposed in Nov last year after the government cited security reasons in the terror-driven state.
Earlier, the Central government had made strong case in the Supreme Court on January 8, 2010 to justify the pre-paid connection ban in the valley.
Just after the ban several political parties in Jammu and Kashmir opposed the decision and demanded immediate revoke of ban."We have asked for stringent identity check of prepaid mobile subscribers after which telecom operators can issue prepaid SIM cards," said the official speaking on condition of anonymity.
